We are 22 days in, so I thought I’d give another update. These last 11 days have not generated as much money as the first 11, but we have managed to produce new content every single day for the last 18 days, so that’s pretty awesome! Below is the same format as before with updated results. And, as always, you can find the running totals in the Experiment X Stats page up top. If you’d like to compare this to the last update, you can find that at: Big Guy on Experiment X Update 1.
Costs
All of the initial costs are still the same. Nothing will really change there unless something goes wrong with our hosting. We were having some slowness issues with the site, but I think I worked most of it out with the support at our hosting company, Namecheap. I would still recommend them as their support has been stellar during the issues I’ve been working on.
What’s in a Theme?
I have been looking for a better theme so I took a shot and purchased one off of themeforest.net for 61 dollars, but it had so many issues that I had remove it. I ended up with another free one that seemed to work well. I’m still going back and forth with them to get my money back on the theme that didn’t work. A lot of the themes look really good, but I wish I could somehow try them before buying to make sure it all works because the refund procedure has been a nightmare.
Let There Be Content
As I mentioned in the last update, we have been hard at work generating content, and part of that content generation has come from us trying to go through Fiverr to get some unique content. Some of these jobs produce output that require so much attention that I could have sat down and written it myself in less time. Some of them, like the one that resulted in Big Guy on Flu Shots, are absolutely great the way they are. Since last time, we have spent about 38 dollars on a few of posts this way.
If you haven’t heard of Fiverr, it is a platform that anyone can use to setup a gig and charge money for that gig, and Fiverr gets a small cut of any sales. We received a pretty good write-up on what it’s like to work though Fiverr from someone on Fiverr. If you haven’t seen it, you can check that out at: Big Guy on Fiverr.
Google Adwords
Adwords… I still feel like it’s a scam. I do need to update my last post, however, because after I spent 25 bucks, they gave me a 100 dollar credit. I have chewed through most of that with an ad campaign that I put together with keywords that are related to the site. I paused the ad campaign for a while, and then I lowered the amount that I’m paying per click and turned it back on to use up the remaining amount. I’m still not sure what to do about this, but there’s no denying it sends a few more folks to the site when it’s on. Not what you would expect though for the price you pay.
Branding
I felt like we were missing a logo or some kind of art here at Big Guy on Stuff, so I have started talks with a fantastic artist to try to get what’s in my head out in digital format. Who am I kidding, there’s not much in my head, so she will be mostly winging it, but it sounds like it’s going to be great so far.
Income
We’re still not in the “make it rain” category yet. In fact, we made less money over the last 11 days than we did the first 11 days. We made about $5.60 over the last 11 days. All of it has still been from adsense. We have a few affiliate links that we use on things that we review, but I don’t think those have produced any funds for anyone yet.
If you don’t know what Google Adsense is, it’s the platform that allows us to post ads that you will see throughout the site, like this one:
